TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Intelligence quotient (IQ) scores are often used as a standard for measuring a person's level of intelligence. A number of people across the globe have been recorded as the smartest people in the world because of their IQ scores.
Quoted from Reader's Digest, here are five people with reportedly the highest IQ in the world:
1.YoungHoon Kim (IQ 276)
In April 2024, the Giga Society, a group for people with an IQ above 190, claimed that the South Korean man YoungHoon Kim had the highest IQ in the world, with a score of 276. Kim is an intelligence specialist advisor to the World Mind Sports Council, World Memory Championships, World Speed-Reading Championships, and World Mind Mapping Championships. Kim is said to have received perfect scores in various high-range intelligence tests.
2. Marnen Laibow-Koser (IQ 268)
When Marnen Laibow-Koser was tested as a child, he reportedly received a projected IQ score of 268. He began studying, playing, and composing music around the age of 3. Currently, Laibow-Koser is a composer, performing musician, web developer, transcriber, and music engraver, having completed a master of music degree in contemporary improvisation at the New England Conservatory in December 2014
3. Ainan Cawley (IQ 263)
Ainan Casley was born to a Singaporean mother and an Irish father. He reportedly had an IQ score of 263 and was considered an "omnibus" child prodigy for his talent in multiple fields. Cawley started studying chemistry at Singapore Polytechnic when he was not even 10 years old.
4. William Sidis (IQ 250–300)
William Sidis enrolled at Harvard University at the age of 11 and successfully graduated at the age of 16. According to his sister, Helena, Sidis took an IQ test administered by a psychologist several years before his sudden death from a stroke in 1944 at the age of 46. The psychologist was said to have never seen a score as high as William's, between 250 and 300, although this claim was eventually refuted.
5. Terence Tao (IQ 225–230)
Terence Tao is known to have excelled in mathematics from an early age. He started studying calculus when he was 7 years old, the same year he started high school. At the age of 20, Tao, also known as the “Mozart of Math”, earned a PhD from Princeton University in 1996. That same year he became part of the faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles, and was promoted to professor four years later. Tao's IQ score is reported to be between 225 and 230.
