TEMPO.CO, JakartaFloods and landslides hit several areas in Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo, on Sunday, July 7, 2024. The Bone Bolango Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPDB) reported a landslide in Tulabolo Village, Suwawa District on Sunday morning, triggered by heavy rain that fell over the area since Saturday.

Based on this report, the Head of the Center for Disaster Data, Information and Communication at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Abdul Muhari, said 6 people died because of the landslides.

"A total of 26 others were reported missing, and 4 people were injured," he said in a written statement on Monday, July 8 2024.

The landslide also cut off a bridge and hit several houses. Until this article was written, BPBD and the search and rescue team were still searching for the missing residents.

BPBD also reported flooding in five sub-districts of Bone Bolango due to overflows of rivers and a damaged embankment. The five sub-districts affected by the flood include Kabila Bone, Botupingge, Bone, Bonepantai, and North Bulango.

"A total of 288 houses from the five sub-districts were inundated," said Muhari.

In total, 1,029 residents were affected by the flood. As many as 11 families have fled to safety, and several public kitchens were established to aid the affected residents. "Rain still pours over the affected area periodically,” said Muhari.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning for heavy rain in Bone Bolango and other parts of Gorontalo for July 8-9, 2024. BNPB urged stakeholders and the people of Gorontalo to remain vigilant for further disasters.
