TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded an upward trend of sales for Indonesian-made cars in the international market.
Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said this can be seen through commodities with Harmonized System (HS) codes 8702 and 8703. These products have shown significant export growth over the last three years, contributing 2.4 percent to the non-oil and gas exports from January to June 2024.
"Historically, car exports in Indonesia have consistently grown from 2021 to 2023, even with the lower growth value in January to June 2024,” she said on Monday, July 15, 2024.
In 2021, car exports value in Indonesia amounted to US$3.39 billion, increasing to US$5.57 billion in 2022, and rising again to US$6.12 billion in 2023.
Meanwhile, for January-June 2024, BPS has recorded the Indonesian-made car export value of US$2.78 billion. Amalia further explained that the export destinations for Indonesian-made cars are distributed the biggest to the Philippines at 27.64 percent, Vietnam at 16.17 percent, and Saudi Arabia at 15.52 percent.
"Meaning, one of every four cars is exported to the Philippines,” she said. BPS also said that Indonesia's trade balance has continued to experience a surplus for 50 consecutive months since May 2020, with a keuntungan value in June 2024 of US$2.39 billion, with US$20.84 billion of exports and US$18.45 billion in imports.
