TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said the government would impose import duties on seven imported commodities from various countries.
"We decided to (impose duties) on seven commodities in the limited meeting chaired by President (Joko Widodo) yesterday. Those goods are textiles, ready-made garments, ceramics, electronics, cosmetics, finished textile products, and footwear,” Zulkifli Hasan said on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
Before imposing the import duties, the minister said, the seven imported commodities would be reviewed by the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee (KADI) and the Indonesian Trade Safeguard Committee (KPPI).
"(The committees) will review whether the import rate for the past three years was so excessive as to disrupt our industry,” he said.
If the import figure disturbed Indonesia’s industry, the Safeguard Measure and the Anti-Dumping import duties will be calculated. "And that has been regulated under our law and international instruments. All countries have the right to protect their industry through certain procedures. (In Indonesia), there’s KADI and KPPI," he said.
Zulkifli Hasan also said that import duties will definitely be imposed if imports start to destroy the Indonesian economy.
"It is permitted under the regulations, and the targeted products do not come solely from China, Europe, and ASEAN. If it’s proven that the last three years import has skyrocketed and disturbed our industry, we are allowed to implement the anti-dumping and safeguard measure import duties,” he concluded.
