TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian state-owned port operation company PT Pelabuhan Indonesia or Pelindo is expanding autogate implementation at 29 ports across the country by 2024 to prevent illegal levies.
"Gate automation will shift the payment system from case to cashless,” said Pelindo Managing Director Putut Sri Muljanto in Jakarta, on Sunday, July 7, 2024.
Pelindo will start operating the autogate from July to the end of the year at four ports in Region 1, three ports in Region 2, 14 ports in Region 3, and eight ports in Region 4.
The four ports in Region 1 are Gunung Sitoli, Sibolga, Tanjung Balai Asahan, and Lhokseumawe, while the three ports in Region 2 is Cirebon, Bengkulu, and Palembang.
The ports in Region 3 with autogate are Tanjung Intan Port Cilacap, Tanjung Tembaga Probolinggo, Waingapu (Sumba), Maumere (Flores), Bima, Ende-Ippi, Kalabahi, Labuan Bajo, Kotabaru, Batulicin, Sampit, Kalianget, Tegal, and Tanjung Wangi. In Region 4, the autogate will be operated in Manokwari, Jayapura, Biak, Fakfak, and Merauke in Papua, Tolitoli, and Pantoloan in Central Sulawesi, and Gorontalo.
According to Putut, the automated gate operation will be carried out in stages by considering the port's traffic. "We also use the implementation of autogate in previous ports as best practices," said Putut.
It is known that in 2023, Pelindo applied autogate in 13 ports in Indonesia, following five ports, namely Banten, Tanjung Pandan, Sunda Kelapa, Banjarmasin, and Gresik as well as 12 ports, most of which are in Eastern Indonesia. Thus, by the end of 2024, Pelindo targeted to implement the autogate system at a total of 59 ports across Indonesia.
