List of the Largest Gold Producing Countries in the World
The Statista released a list of the highest gold producing countries in the world on January 2024 with a survey time period of the year 2023. Gold extraction is a business that operates globally except in Antarctica. The following are the top 10 countries:
1. China
China is a contributor to dunia gold production of around 370 metric tons of gold. China continues to hold the top spot as the world's top producer of gold with atomic number 79.
2. Australia
The second largest gold producing country in the world is Australia. This country and continent has recorded an increase in mining output for seven consecutive years. The total gain from the extraction of this precious metal reached 310 metric tons. Production from mining projects is highest in Mount Morgans and Cadia Valley.
3. Russia
The country led by Vladimir Putin succeeded in occupying third place with gold mining results of 310 metric tons. Most of the gold in Europe is said to come from Russia. It is known that the domestic government buys around two-thirds of the total local gold production.
4. Canada
Canada managed to overtake the United States (US) with the amount of gold mined at 200 metric tons. New projects in Nunavut, Quebec and Yukon are predicted to be able to support more massive production in the following year.
5. United States
The superpowers must be satisfied with obtaining fifth position. The amount of gold extraction in the US was 170 metric tons. This figure continues to decline from 2019. The largest gold production is carried out in Nevada with a percentage of around 78 percent.
6. Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is at the sixth position. The amount of gold extraction was 130 metric tons.
7. Mexico
Even though production continues to decline due to conflicts between local communities and contractors, Mexico is still a competitive gold producing country. According to the World Gold Council, gold extraction in this country is 120 metric tons. The country located in North America is also claimed to be a mining location with low regulatory costs.
8. Indonesia
Indonesia is at the 8th position with total gold production of 110 metric tons. In this country there is the highest and largest gold mining location in the world which is managed by PT Freeport Indonesia. It is not surprising that this country is responsible for the three percent of dunia gold needs.
9. South Africa
South Africa is on the list of the ninth largest gold producing countries in the world. The country where the 2010 World Cup was held produced around 100 metric tons of gold. Not only that, the oldest and deepest gold mine reaching 2.9 km, namely South Deep, can also be found here.
10. Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is at the tenth position. Total output from this region was 100 metric tons of gold.
